Jesse Pomeroy was thought to be a normal fourteen year old boy, but he was far from normal. He did not enjoy things typical of American boys, like hunting and fishing. Pomeroy instead took part in more sinister activities. To make matters worse, his appearance was frightening, but his actions fit the appearance. He was bullied in school because one of his eyes was white, his older brother did not pay much attention to him and his father beat him. Pomeroy’s mother witnessed him attack small animals, but she thought he was attacking them out of sadness (Montillo). On one such occasion, she came home to find the heads wrung off her pet canaries (Wilhelm). Soon after, he started attacking other boys, tying them up, stripping them completely naked, and beating them.
However, Pomeroy grew tired with simply beating up other boys, and
soon took to attacking people with knives (Duvall). Pomeroy was sent to prison for six years, because one of the boys whom he attacked identified him. He stayed in prison for only a few months though, because his mother attempted to free him, and succeeded. After he was out of jail, Pomeroy went back to his old ways. Two children were killed and their deaths were attributed to Jesse Pomeroy. He was then sent to jail, where he stayed until he died (Montillo).
